RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content.
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web and allows them to easily stay informed by retrieving latest content summaries from sites they're subscribed to.
So if someone subscribes to your traineo RSS feed, they'll be able to monitor all your diet, training and weight progress direct from their browser or aggregator without having to visit your traineo page each time they want an update.
If Mike had meebo enabled, you'd be able to talk to her right here, right now!
Send her a message and suggest she starts using meebo!

Mike, what are you goals for the week? Post them on your profile page so I can help keep you on track.
Also, Brad is around. If you go to my profile page you'll see him listed as a friend. You can contact him via that and you two can be connected.
Traineo is much more interesting with friends. I would read some of the forums and find people you think are interesting and then request a friendship. Have fun with it!
